How to download and convert youtube videos

(Off course i found it somewhere and copying to my  blog for my knowledge)

1) Copy the URL from the page with the video

2) Paste this in the text box at the top of vidgrabber.com and select from the source options in the dropdown menu.

FLV Players [Windows and OS X]: Wimpy http://www.wimpyplayer.com/products/wimpy_standalone_flv_player.html VLC http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ Transcoding Software: Riva http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/Riva-FLV-Encoder-Download-14482.html Total Video Converter http://www.effectmatrix.com/total-video-converter/index.htm Imtoo http://www.imtoo.com/downloads/avi-mpeg-converter-2.exe

3) Right click on the box that says 'Download Link' and select 'Save link as' (in Firefox), or 'Save target as' in Internet Explorer.

4) The file should begin downloading. It should be a .flv file, but in some cases it will be called get_video.htm or similar. In these cases you must change the extension of the file manually to .flv

You may need to set your system to show file extensions to change.

To play the .flv file we reccommend Wimpy (it’s free):
http://www.wimpyplayer.com/products/wimpy_standalone_flv_player.html

How to download and convert youtube videos

Converting the FLV
For the next step of the process you will need to find a compiled version of FFMPEG. The program is free, but is not generally distributed as a compled binary. A list of download sources is provided at the end of this page. You will find versions with differing amounts of bugs. You may need to try a few version before you find one that works. Once you have ffmpeg.exe, put your .FLV file and ffmpeg.exe into the same folder. Open a command line by going to Start - Run and type in cmd.exe. Hit Enter and you will be looking at your command line. Navigate to the folder containing the FLV (and ffmpeg.exe) using the CD command. Issue the magical command of: ffmpeg.exe -i yourvid.flv output.avi (you could also change it to output.mov or output.mpg if you want to convert to one of those).

ffmpeg.exe should kick in and begin converting the file. It will look something like this.

You can find the output file in the same directory as the input file. If it doesn’t work, you may have a buggy version of ffmpeg. Try find a better one. Here are some places you might find them: http://arrozcru.no-ip.org/ffmpeg_builds/ http://www.paehl.com/open_source/?Convert_Tools:FFMPEG http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=ffmpeg

Understand SMTP error messages.

I found this very good and interesting post on email.about.com so pasting it here for my knowledge as well as for those people who are interested in knowing what SMTP errors numbers indicates.

The Meaning of the Numbers

A mail server will reply to every request a client (such as your email program) makes with a return code. This code consists of three numbers.

The first generally tells whether the server accepted the command and if it could handle it. The five possible values are:

  • 1: The server has accepted the command, but does not yet take action. A confirmation message is required. Currently, this is not used.
  • 2: The server has completed the task successfully.
  • 3: The server has understood the request, but requires further information to complete it.
  • 4: The server has encountered a temporary failure. If the command is repeated without any change, it might be completed. Mail servers can use such temporary failures to keep untrusted senders at bay.
  • 5: The server has encountered an error.

The second number gives more information. Its six possible values are:

  • 0: A syntax error has occurred.
  • 1: Indicates a informational reply, for example to a HELP request.
  • 2: Refers to the connection status.
  • 3 and 4 are unspecified.
  • 5: Refers to the status of the mail system as a whole and the mail server in particular.
The last number is even more specific and shows more graduations of the mail transfer status. This leads us to the detailed list of ESMTP server response codes, as laid down in RFC 821 and later extensions.

Examples :
------------
  • 211 - A system status message.
  • 214 - A help message for a human reader follows.
  • 220 - SMTP Service ready.
  • 221 - Service closing.
  • 250 - Requested action taken and completed. The best message of them all.
  • 251 - The recipient is not local to the server, but the server will accept and forward the message.
  • 252 - The recipient cannot be VRFYed, but the server accepts the message and attempts delivery.
  • 354 - Start message input and end with .. This indicates that the server is ready to accept the message itself (after you have told it who it is from and where you want to to go).
  • 421 - The service is not available and the connection will be closed.
  • 450 - The requested command failed because the user's mailbox was unavailable (for example because it was locked). Try again later.
  • 451 - The command has been aborted due to a server error. Not your fault. Maybe let the admin know.
  • 452 - The command has been aborted because the server has insufficient system storage.

The following error messages (500-504) usually tell you that your email client is broken. It's probably best to let the program's author know.

  • 500 - The server could not recognize the command due to a syntax error.
  • 501 - A syntax error was encountered in command arguments.
  • 502 - This command is not implemented.
  • 503 - The server has encountered a bad sequence of commands.
  • 504 - A command parameter is not implemented.
  • 550 - The requested command failed because the user's mailbox was unavailable (for example because it was not found, or because the command was rejected for policy reasons).
  • 551 - The recipient is not local to the server. The server then gives a forward address to try.
  • 552 - The action was aborted due to exceeded storage allocation.
  • 553 - The command was aborted because the mailbox name is invalid.
  • 554 - The transaction failed. Blame it on the weather.

Unix questions and answers

Que - How shell "builtin" commands are different from regular commands ?

Ans - "builtin" -- means the shell implements the call instead of calling an external program. It does not have anything to do with kernel/user space. It saves process creation overhead and makes the shell script run more efficiently.

Waynad Wildlife Sanctuary ..... Kerala

Its not like i have never been to kerala before but this trip was much better than earlier all trips all because of 5 hours of jungle walk.

Intially we started around 6 o'clock in the saturday morning. frankly speaking I was not knowing where i am going, i mean name of the place i.e. "Coorg". Everybody told me that it's very good place to visit but nobody was sure in our group. Actually our planning was very simple, first Coorg (Guest house). then there was water fall nearby, then jungle walk and return home with the ashirward of gautam buddha's (golden temple).

As I said we started early in the morning on saturday, then had idli-vada breakfast somewhere in between on the way to coorg. Of course we were carrying a can of bear's to booze, how your trip can be memorable if you dont boooooooze ;)

We reached to the guest house around 12-12.30 in the afternoon. Friends were already booked one farm house for 10 people which cost us around 4000 bucks for 2 and half day with meal which I found very good surrounded by lots of coconut trees.

Then we went to see the waterfall somewhere around in the evening, sorry but i really dont remember time. then only i had a bath over there because everyone was afraiding cold water and i dont wanted to miss this chance (bath in real natural water). till the time i was not knowing about leech (a small soft creature that fixes itself to the skin of animals in order to drink their blood).

Everyone was in condition till the time, then the actual day start. It was raining when we reach guest house. We were carrying rackets and shuttle cocks so we played tennis for some time. Then the time came for which everyone was waiting for...... Boooooooooozing time ;). Lady over there got some waste woods for bonfire then after we arranged ourselves because it was our time. We dont wanted anybody else to do it for us.

Then we thought that everyone will share there funniest/wildest/thrilling/memorable moment in life. When i say everyone it means excluding me ;). I had only 2 bear of cans of course warned by shampa not to booze lot and even i know my limit. I just wanted to be part of boozing guys so they can open there secrets with me.;). Then these guys booze till 10-10.30. We have to hurry up for night safari.

I was in wrong impression that we will be going into the jungle I mean core jungle and watch animals but we just took one round of jungle for 1 hour and came back. it was not very thrilling, but you never know after all its jungle. We saw some dears and an elephant. That elephant killed one small girl 1 year before only because they were teasing that elephant. Even he was trying to be naughty to us, when we flashed light on his face he hide behind tree and was looking at us so that he can again come back as soon as we move little bit ahead. Nobody was in our group wanted to take chance against that wild elephant. at the end night safari was quite ok and we did enjoy it.

"Jungle walk, I have been to jungle's but always in some vehicle, but this time it was a walk. yes we have to cover around 25-30 km distance if you really want to see jungle and jungle animals. We reached to wildlife sachutary, Tollpatthy area around 8:15 in the morning, it was around 15-20 km from the guesthouse we stayed at. I was not sure whether we can really walk 25-30 km in 4 hours that too in jungle with rain. We got some 2-3 guards to guide us. They all were wearning virappan like shirt i.e. green color so animals wont find u easily in green jungle. funniest part was i was wearing sandle and till the time i was not knowing about leeches. The guard warned me to be careful while walking in jungle. I thought I am gone, these leeches gone suck my pure blood too. but thank god it dint happen, but still there were 4-5 leeches who got the chance to enjoy fresh human animal blood.

When we entered , we were welcome by a crab. I was about to keep my foot on it but somehow i managed otherwise he was ready to bite my toe. It was quite ok start, I was ok with crabs but was worrying about leeches. It was my first time to be in jungle with less security so was afraiding little bit. Guard was saying, 95% jungle animals wont attach on you but there were still 5% chances. If tiger or leopard is really hungry then no body can save you from them. And i am very much fond of Discovery and National Geography channels so I was knowing how smartly they attach. We were all surronded by trees, you can never imagine from where they can come and say "hi".

So we keet walking unless and until guard stop us and shows us something. We saw spotted deers. then jungli buffelo, elephant, langur, chital deer, samber deer and of course leeches. There was one incident when all birds started chattering and langur also started crying. They were giving signals to other animals to be careful as there is tiger or leopard or wild dogs around. Guard came near to us and told that there is a possibility of tiger there so all stopped walking and was waiting for guard's signal to move. It was better option to move from there as we were all empty handed and only guard was carrying a gun that too only fire in air ;). But one of my friend was really in tension after seeing one of the guard when he started praying.

I did click some picture of jungle but it was really a thrilling experiance for me. It was a proper jungle walk. Now I am planning to do other jungle walks if possible. lets hope for the best. :)
